In 1978, Renzo Rosso founded Diesel with the aim of creating the world's most innovative denim brand. In a time of global oil crisis, when diesel fuel was being considered an alternative energy source, Renzo liked the idea of his brand being known as a denim brand that was different from the dominant clothing giants. From the very first establishment of the brand, Renzo aimed to reach the whole world and for this purpose he chose the word "diesel" as an international term that is equally pronounced throughout the world.
