BIOGRAPHY
Zeynep Demirhan (Aydın, 1995) focused on visual production after graduating from TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Department of Architecture in 2018. During her master's degree in Cinema and Television at Istanbul Bilgi University, which she completed in 2022, her article titled "Urban Environments and Agnès Varda's Genius loci", written with Kennedy Karpat, was published in the book "The Sustainable Legacy of Agnes Varda".
She took part in the architectural photography category with her "Play-building" photograph in the Sony World Photography Awards competition. She directed Buğra Baran's single music video titled "Entity", which was selected as a finalist at the Prague Music Video Awards.
The short documentary "Faces", which she completed in 2022, was screened at many international and national festivals, as well as the Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara Film Festivals, and within the scope of the Base 2022 Istanbul exhibition collective. Apart from film production, the photography series "There" was exhibited in Bomontiada through Mamut Art Project. These days, Demirhan continues to work on moving and still images.
ARTIST TEXT
Zeynep Demirhan captures the moments she encounters and intersects while walking on the street and feeds on her surroundings. The observer states, connecting with the place she visits or lives, redraws the boundaries and searches for a place where she can feel her own.
Working on the themes of body, self, existence, space, memory and transformation, the artist questions what reality is with the digital intervention she applies to the photographs and videos she takes. According to the artist, the reality that we look at from different points within the same universe may intersect and repeat somewhere.
Inspired by her personal experiences, Demirhan continues to tell stories by considering still and moving images together with her productions that lie between fiction and reality.
