ALİ ÖMER ERENER
2DAli Ömer Erener (1999, Istanbul) received hisundergraduate education in the Illustration department at the School of Visual Arts. During his education there, he found the chance of showcasing independent work in different fields that consists of music video clip animation, single cover designs and illustrations for post card books. In his last year, he was entitled to be exhibited in the school's own gallery along with his thesis project. After his studies, he returned to Istanbul and took on the role as an illustrator & art director in an advertising agency, while continuing on with his personal work.
Ali Ömer defines his style as "Surreal Naturalism". His paintings always consist of a visual vocabulary that includes mythological stories, animals, people, places and dreams. With his observational attitude, he is deeply affected by the mystical elements of nature and life, and he prefers to continue his work by filtering them through the cultural image bank as he describes it before starting his work. His dominant material choice is acrylic on canvas. He chooses to use animals as "avatars" in the visual language he uses and creates narrative paintings that are based on personal or universal issues he experiences in his own life. In his work he tries tell stories that create a romantic familiarity through these subjects, while also creating an aggressive foreignness. Rather than presenting his works as an image that will remain only in the viewers mind, he seeks ways to somehow place them in their soul and heart. For this reason, he argues that when people look at his pieces that they may feel that they are invited to another otherworldy place and that this field is a much more emotional place rather than an intellectual one.
