CEMAL DOUGAN
2DHe was born in Kayseri, 1997. He completed his undergraduate education at NÖHÜ Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting Education. In 2015, he held his first personal exhibition at NÖHÜ Fine Arts Exhibition Hall. In addition, his works were exhibited in group exhibitions in Turkey and outside Turkey at the Timisoara Biennial in Romania. Finally, he showed himself in the Base 2021 selection.
Currently, Dougan is continuing his master's degree at Düzce University, Faculty of Art Design and Architecture, Department of Painting. He also continues his productions in his studio in Kayseri.
ARTIST STATEMENT
There are various traumatic events that people have experienced socially and individually from past to present. In his paintings, Dougan observes the effects of these events on the body and portrait surfaces. A person carries the effects of the life he has lived both psychologically and physiologically. This scar it carries causes psychological identity and self-conflicts. The objects, objects and perception of space we see in his paintings actually belong to that moment and carry the effects of the unconscious.
A state of trance can be seen in Dougan's paintings. It allows us to access the depths of this trance state with transparent effects. Contrary to the relationship between soul and body in shamanic rituals where consciousness is not completely lost, it reinterprets its connection with today.
