SINEM MUCUR
2DSinem Mucur (Biga, 1981) completed her undergraduate education at Bilkent University, Graphic Design Department. The works of the artist, who lives in London, were included in personal and group exhibitions outside London, as well as in Istanbul and Paris. The artist, who came second in the Hackney Wicked Art Prize competition in 2016, held an exhibition curated by Empire Project at Ambidexter Gallery this year, in collaboration with Ayşegül Turan, through Contradictory Impulses. Photography brings with it the chance to capture the present moment. The photograph taken reveals the story, subject, time and place of that moment, and is a kind of evidence. It is the method that comes to mind to record any moment. When the artist pursues the fleeting moments of the world and what they actually hold behind, she finds the opportunity to capture and share a specific moment, image, and utopian and dystopian possibilities.
While the artist sometimes allows light to draw time by arranging different seconds into a single moment, at other times she navigates the thin border between painting and photography by manipulating digital features.
