BERİL GÜR
2DBeril Gür (İzmir, 1989), after her undergraduate education in Urban Planning and Engineering, completed her master's degree in Architecture at Istanbul Technical University; She wrote her thesis on the representation of Istanbul through photographs.
The artist has been teaching part-time at Istanbul Bilgi University and MEF University on space representation in visual narratives since 2018. One of the participants of the Casa dell'Arte International Artist-in-Residence Program in 2016, Gür's works were exhibited in many cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, Berlin, Nottingham, Paris, Amsterdam and Eindhoven.
With her productions, Beril Gür makes discoveries about ways of looking at urban space from different scales and in new ways. The representation of space in visual narratives creates a focal point for the artist. With her interest in understanding the relationships between people and the built environment, the artist's approach is shaped by the search for the 'beyond-the-ordinary'*. She mostly prefers lens-based media and examines the coexistence of time, architecture and memory concepts in her productions. She carries out his work on a place-oriented approach with an iterative method that addresses the question "what happens when nothing happens?"
While Gür continues her productions, she also reveals critical readings of the perception of space in visual arts with the lectures he gives at Istanbul Bilgi University and MEF University. While the artist works with architecture students on the sensory perception of space, she also advises them on developing their personal projects.
